Kennestone Women’s Imaging Center

The design objective for this new women’s imaging suite was to create a space on par with a five star hotel spa where the patient feels pampered and well attended. The owner’s request was to design a suite that was contemporary, warm, and welcoming. Entering through the wood doors with large glass inserts, patients are welcomed to the reception area. The warm wood tones of the floor and flowing curves of the desk and soffit are enhanced with radial accent lighting above the desk. LED accent lighting cascades over the rhythmic dimensional waves of the wall behind the desk creating a soothing warm glow. The unique design of the contemporary desk utilizes modular arts painted wall panels, 3-Form and Staron.

The two primary waiting areas are located on the side of the reception space. These are areas intimate spaces were designed for comfort, durability, and ease of maintenance. They are distinctly feminine with dark stained wood and beautifully patterned crypton fabrics. The sub-waiting areas are softened with carpet, textured glass, and organic patterned fabric. A zen-like serenity is further realized by the organic 3-Form patterns. The theme is consistent from the front lobby to the clinical spaces and exam rooms.

Sumter Regional HealthPLEX

Sumter Regional Hospital has served the Middle Flint region since 1953. When a large former retail space adjacent to the hospital became available, officials immediate saw it as an opportunity to expand their services to the community. They turned to CDH Partners for a master plan that called for the renovation and modification of 65,000 square feet.

The first phase of the HealthPLEX included the addition of imaging and diagnostic services along with women’s health services, which was anchored by the latest state-of-the-art MRI scanner. The center also features women’s mammography.

Using the skeleton of a previous commercial space presented several challenges. The demands of new technologies, from electrical and mechanical to patient accessibility, required that most of the existing system had to be removed. New electrical services, along with new HVAC units, a TPO roof, and fire suppression system were installed.

The original structure’s concrete slab was cut to accommodate the utility requirements. The slab in the MRI area had to be completely removed and replace to accommodate the new utilities and floor leveling requirements.

Designers chose a bright and lively color palette, which enhances the feeling of light and movement as patients and visitors transition from one space to another. Surfaces are durable with touches of wood and other natural elements. A striking brushed aluminum canopy serves a signature element for the HealthPLEX.

Rockdale Medical Center

Prompted by extensive growth in the area, officials for the Rockdale Medical Center began planning for expansion. Architects created a master plan for the medical group, which included an east tower expansion. This building was the first major construction for the hospital in over 48 years. It doubled the hospital’s patient capacity and signaled a key step forward in growth and accessibility for the facility.

The three-story addition is the second phase of the center’s expansion following the emergency department completion in 2003. The facility includes state-of-the-art outpatient care services, a community training center, expanded medical and surgical Intensive Care units and private Acute Care units. The master plan also includes a new cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and boutique.

Windows wrap this center providing an abundance of natural light in lobbies and patient gathering areas. Bold touches of wood paneling, a stone water feature, warm lighting and natural colors come together to make this contemporary facility inviting and comfortable. The center also has a two level parking deck that provides convenience for visitors.

A complete women’s care center is located in the diagnostic suite. It provides women’s services that include mammography, ultrasound, bone density and G.I. lab. Designers also planned the expansion of a mother/baby unit, which includes gynecological care through delivery. High-risk maternal management and an infant NICU unit are also located in this area.

The Women’s Center at DeKalb Medical Center

The plan for The Women’s Center at DeKalb Medical accommodates and underscores the hospital’s goal to offer the latest and most advanced comprehensive obstetric, gynecological, and maternity services. A strong emphasis was placed on creating a facility that achieved the hospital’s desire to provide intuitive care within a family centered environment.

DeKalb Medical Center at North Decatur

CDH has provided planning and design services for the DeKalb Medical Center since 1979. At that time, the design team assisted in the creation of a strategic Master Plan that involved more than one million square feet of hospital and medical office space on this Decatur campus.

An ongoing goal of the master plan initiatives was to create an environment that promotes the well being and healing of those who use this facility. The master planning process provides convenient locations and intuitive way-finding to relieve stress for each guest.

Architects and hospital leaders spent a great deal of time focusing on details—large and small. These even included efficient travel distances for both staff and patients. In the end, designers placed outpatient services adjacent to the main hospital tower, which eliminated a sense of “sprawl” keeping the campus organized and easy to access.

The latest addition to this metro Atlanta medical facility is a 163,000 square foot Women’s & Surgery Center. It is recognized by its dedicated covered entry with convenient parking located beneath the medical tower.

Over the years, CDH has created innovative design solutions that have helped the hospital achieve many of its long-term initiatives. The goal to provide the best patient care possible has always been at the center of the design process.

ClearVista Women’s Care

ClearVista Women’s Care was faced with an increasing level of competition for services. As the population grew around the facility, more providers were drawn to the area. The two-decade old clinic had become a cluttered patchwork of spaces that limited physician’s ability to provide innovative services. In response to the client’s requests, Designers created a state-of-the-art facility that provided a welcoming environment in a supportive atmosphere.

At the same time, the local hospital was in the process of a major renovation and expansion. Included in the project was the construction of an eight-story medical office building. ClearVista saw the opportunity to partner with the hospital creating a comprehensive women’s center. This center also serves as an anchor tenant providing direct access to the maternity floor and offering the most cost effective solution to the growing demands of patient care.

An exterior window wall was used to organize the main circulation system and provide natural light for the facility creating a spa-like atmosphere along the hallway leading to the exam rooms. The facility also contains offices, a conference room, and gathering spaces for children, who accompany their parents.
