The 10th annual Jim Fausett Golf Classic is being held at the Marietta Country Club on April 15, and CDH Partners, Inc., is a lead sponsor of the event. The 27-hole golf course was designed by Robert Cupp, a former Golf Architect of The Year as named by Golf World Magazine, and is known for it’s rolling fairways and breathtaking view of Kennesaw Mountain.
Proceeds from the classic go to the Fausett Scholarship Endowment at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) and are also used for faculty support, cultural academic activities for students, and the sponsorship of an international academic symposium. Thanks to the many who participate in the tournament each year, SPSU students are given even broader educational opportunities.
This year’s classic is being held in honor of Dr. Wilson (Bill) Barnes, who passed away on September 9, 2012. Dr. Barnes retired last June as dean emeritus of the School of Architecture and Construction. He joined the university’s faculty in 1995 as an associate professor of Construction. In July of 2001, he was appointed dean of the School of Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology and Construction Management and served in that capacity for 10 years.
The school boasts the only nationally accredited professional Bachelor of Architecture in Georgia, which is a five-year degree program that includes two years of design foundation and three years of professional courses. It is one of the longest running construction management (CM) programs in the state.
Jim Fausett, FAIA, is a SPSU professor emeritus and former president of AIA. Fausett’s tireless efforts have guided the Architecture program at Southern Polytechnic State University and have influenced and educated hundreds of students. Registration for the classic is complete but some openings remain. For more information about this year’s golf classic click here.
