McNair High School
Plans presented by CDH Partners for the McNair High School included the revitalization and expansion of the original structure, which was 37 years old. Also included was the construction of a performing arts center, additional classrooms for culinary arts, cosmetology, and information technology. The existing facility was renovated and redesigned to improve circulation space and flow. A new façade incorporates natural elements of brick and concrete. The performing arts center is a stunning facility that contains a 519-seat auditorium, a 90-seat black box theater for class performances, an art classroom, a two level space for the school’s concert band, and a chorus room. The lobby of the arts center serves as a gallery space for student’s artwork. Concrete images of mustang horses, the school’s mascot, top the structure’s exterior colonnade providing a dramatic and contemporary element. The additions are positioned in close proximity to the auditorium to provide students with an integrated approach to the performing arts.
