Kinchafoonee Primary School
The Kinchafoonee Primary School was designed to accommodate 650 students. This school contains the customary spaces, classrooms, kitchen, cafeteria, media center, gymnasium and administration areas, but the unique design offers several long-term benefits. Each classroom has south-facing glass, and the central corridor has a south-facing clerestory to provide natural lighting and passive solar gain. By eliminating east and west windows, the air conditioning load was reduced. With each classroom and educational space equipped with an external escape window, a sprinkler system is not required. The gymnasium and cafeteria stage areas are designed for community use. Both spaces can be secured from the remainder of the facility and entered from the main parking area.
