Oakview Elementary School

This new school is located within an existing public park and the client’s desire was to preserve as much of the park as possible. A two-story structure uses sustainable design elements including an innovative storm drain solution, nearly 200 percent more glazing than typical classrooms, and low maintenance flooring in the high traffic areas. Administration is located along a window wall of the main entry corridor and is assisted with security cameras, and a secure courtyard for the youngest students. All third through fifth grade classes are on the second level minimizing the vertical circulation for younger children. Oakview is now a prototype for future elementary schools in this system.
